Archaeologists and architects that are directing the excavation of the Amphipolis Tomb.There are many other dedicated members of the excavation team. Many are specialists who are assisting in excavation, preservation and restoration, along with safety and security for the interior of the Tomb, its contents and the hard working team.

Maria Kyranoudi, Conservator

Maria Kyranoudi (in Yellow hard hat) has studied the Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art and has a Masters Degree from the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University at Thessaloniki. She was one of the team members who uncovered and carefully cleaned the two Caryatids.

Eirini Papadopoulou has studied History and Archaeology and will soon complete her Master in Classical Archaeology. She is the one that takes pictures inside the Tomb.

Chief of the Geology and Paleontology Department of the Ephorate of Palaeoanthropology - Speleology of South Greece.

Dimitris Lazaridis - Archaeologist

He was born in Kavala, Greece in 1917 and died in 1984. This man was a leader in his field and was the first archeologist to begin working on the Tumulus Hill where the Tomb is located. His first excavations at the Amphipolis Hill took place in 1964 and is now reaching its climax during the current excavations.

Katerina Peristeri - Archaeologist

The excavation dig at the Amphipolis Tomb is being directed by the Chief Archeologist Katerina Peristeri, who will guide the excavation to its exciting conclusion and to the discoveries that will change the historical record.
