The entrance Arch of the great Tomb at Amphipolis, with the two headless-wingless Greek Style Sphinxes also known as a Chimera.

[ gr. khimaira ] any mythical animal with parts taken from various animals.

Both figures are carved in marble from the Aegean island of Thassos.

The first reveal of the two figures

The two Sphinxes are 1.45 meters high, but with their restored heads, they would be about 2 meters in height.
